He staged guerrilla attacks against the Americans during the Filipino-American war and strengthened the defense line from Balantang to Jibaoan in Iloilo. At 25, he died mysteriously. He and his group were said to have been ambushed by a band of bandits, but many believed that he murdered by assassins hired by his enemies.
