He quit law school at the outbreak of the Philippine Revolution in August 1896 to the forces of general Aguinaldo. His first assignment was to transport gunpowder from Manila to Cavite.
He fought in the battle of Binakayan on November 9, 1896.
He was fatally wounded when the Spanish army assaulted the town of Salitran on March 1, 1897. He sustained a gunshot in his stomach. Two days later, he died at the military hospital in Imus.
