He joined the Katipunan when the revolutionaries from Balintawak arrived in his hometown in Bulacan in 1896.
When Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo was captured by the Americans in 1900, he fled to the mountains and founded the Santa Iglesia, a messianic society that aimed to overthrow the American colonial government.
He gained a significant following in Bulacan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Tarlac, and Nueva Ecija. He was popularly called "Apo Ipe" by his followers.
In 1910, he was captured by the American authorities. He was sentenced to death and was hanged in 1912.
