A Katipunero, he joined Andres Bonifacio in searching for a secret headquarters in the mountains of Montalban and San Mateo. He was part of the group that visited Pamitinan CAve on April 12, 1895. It was in this cave that the Bonifacio declared his intention to fight for Philippines independence.
After the outbreak of the revolution in 1896, he was captured by the Spanish authorities. He was imprisoned for nine months.
He was one of the signatories of the Declaration of Philippine Independence in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898.
During the American Period, he organized the Junta de Amigos, a group of Katipuneros that fought against the new colonizers.
A playwright, he wrote nationalistic plays that dramatize the Filipinos' fight for independence. His play Kahapon, Ngayon, at Bukas led to his second arrest in 1903.
